Unleash your energy
Boundaries
Greetings epic humans,
How is your week going? Do you feel accomplished? Motivated? Inspired?
Or are you feeling drained, tired, and exhausted?
This newsletter is going to talk about boundaries you set with yourself and others so you can stay “topped” up on energy which leads to feeling better, more inspired, and generally more productive.
Everything is energy.
Literally everything.
That means you are made up of pure energy.
You are like a battery that needs to be charged, and then for a certain period, you use that charge to transfer energy into something else.
In this case, actualizing your ideas into reality.
And let me tell you, that can take a shit ton of energy…If you haven’t realized this you are about too
“The brain burns more than 100 calories per hour when studying”
But often as you take on a new creative or business idea you can quickly burn out because you haven’t found a way to keep up with day-to-day life, make time for your business, and maintain a “normal” ish lifestyle.
The good news is that I have gone through this cycle more times than I would like to admit over the past ten years and I am here to share with you what I have learnt in hopes you can save yourself some of the pain and suffering.
We lose our “charge” from doing things that aren’t a full FUCK YES to us.
Sometimes these are things inside of our business.
For example, doing accounting work really drains me…but until I build a better system of delegation to my accountant or train/hire someone to do what needs to be done, I need to step up to the plate and get it done.
We also lose “charge” by saying yes to wayyyyy to many things that might not be in alignment with our current goals and lifestyle.
An example of this is going out for drinks with friends “just because” you don’t have anything better to do…
The actualizer still has fun, but is intentional with their time and all of their actions.
Why?
Because everything is energy and everything is connected.
It’s not just the cost or the time of the night out, is the time recovering the next morning, it’s the processing from any drama…you get my point.
We lose “charge” from not limiting our notifications and being bombarded every moment of every day by things that are pulling our energy away from us.
Much of what we consume actually drains our energy:
Media (social or TV)
Food/Diet
Friendships
Here are a few of the best ways I have learnt to set boundaries with myself to keep my charge full so that burnout doesn’t happen:
Turn off every single notification on your phone & computer. The only way my energy goes to a text or an app is if I intentionally choose to go into that space.
Learn how to say NO to friends, family, co-workers, and partners to focus on what YOU need to stay charged up.
Before consuming anything (food, media, etc), ask yourself if this going to give me energy or drain my energy.
Remove or signally reduce time with friends & family who don’t give you energy & inspire you.
Prioritize sleep & supplementation.
Make 30 mins before getting into a workflow in the AM’s to do whatever you gotta do (hydrate, sunlight, movement, mediate, breath work etc)
Use blue light blockers (the strong ones) on your screens after 8 PM (this hack is next level)
Give yourself 30 mins before bed to not work on related things (reading, stretching, connecting with a partner, etc)
Schedule weekly adventure/health blocks to do what gives you energy (for me this is surfing, mountain biking, swimming, or getting a massage)
Review your WHY & values daily/weekly (why the fuck am I doing what I do)
To bring our ideas into form, we must protect and optimize our energy.
We must channel that energy into our ideas.
The truth is most of us drain tons of energy into things that don’t actually support the lifestyle we want to live.
The above steps are things I have learnt how to master so that I can stay inspired, motivated, and full of energy to keep actualizing my mission.
Yes, I fall short, and when I do I bring it back to those basic steps to recharge and I implement better habits so that I don’t fall again.
My hope is that you don’t just read these bullet points and then forget them.
Make them your own.
If you want to change.
If you want to show up to your fullest potential you must take action.
Make these tips your own.
See what works for you.
Do some of these tips for 2-4 weeks, and then take an inventory of how you feel.
Adapt, refine, and find your flow.
It is an honour to share with you.
Have a great day :)
